BRAXTON BROOKS
Braxton Brooks is a Los Angeles-based comedy writer who promises not to test her jokes on you. She grew up in Washington, D.C. as the only child of a police officer and Social Security lawyer; so, naturally, she became a Broadway performer. While singing and dancing gave Braxton a lifetime of stories to write about, she retired from Broadway to find a career that was gentler on her hamstrings. As a writer, Braxton loves creating stories and sketches that center Black womanhood and find levity in unexpected places. She has written and performed for comedy powerhouse The Second City and has penned YouTube episodes for Barbie, Peacock Kids, Rainbow High and was a 2022 Writing Fellow at Mara Brock Akil’s Writer’s Colony. Although she has been a semi-finalist for NBC Writers On The Verge, Austin Film Festival and the Harvardwood Writer’s Competition, her mom reminds her weekly that it’s never too late to go to law school.
